Website Infrastructure

11ty

Eleventy is just enough CMS; everything I want and nothing I don't need. Performance, accessibility, and simplicity in a JavaScript-based static site generator. Eleventy's author, Zack Leatherman, has consistently and impressively maintained the codebase since 2018. For these reasons and more I always recommend Eleventy when given the chance.

Bunny.net

Bunny.net hosts this website. I've shuffled hosting between all the regular suspects previously, Bunny.net is a recent change but so far I am very pleased with it.

Namecheap

Namecheap's reputation is not always sterling, but I started with Namecheap and I haven't had a reason to leave. I am eyeing Porkbun at the moment and wondering what the sale of Namecheap to CVC Capital Partners means for the future of that company.

Github

Github is where I store this website's code. I'm slightly skeptical of Micosoft's continued handling of the whole of the developer ecosystem. I'm considering moving to Codeberg or maybe GitLab.

Masto.host

Mastohost powers ansible.jshwlkr.info, a single user instance of Mastodon where I toot various things.

On the Desktop

VSCodium

VSCode without Microsoft's telemetry has been my preferred editing environment up to this point. The unreliable security of the plugin ecosystem has me wondering whether or not I need to move to a different editor.

Wezterm

Starship

Serif's Affinity suite

While Serif's collapse into Canva has me worried, I've happily used Serif's products for years. I'm squatting on version 2 and seeing what the future holds.

DxO

I use DxO for photo editing.

KeePassXC

I use KeePassXC for password and SSH key management.

Obsidian

Obsidian for digital note-taking and knowledge management.

Syncthing

I use Syncthing to move files between devices, including my Obsidian vaults.

Firefox

I'll go wherever uBlock Origin goes because I decide who is entitled to my attention and bandwidth. Additionally I've found Betterfox to be a formidable privacy mechanism.

Someone Else's Computer

Inoreader

My feed reader of choice.

FeedLand

I use FeedLand to manage my RSS subscriptions, and then subscribe to the OPML file in Inoreader.

Fastmail

Fastmail manages my email.
