Hello, my name is Joshua Walker. I build the things that power the web.
I am a web/software developer, professional fixer, 1X engineer, computist, futurist, humanist, grug brained, colony of myxomycetes, descended from immigrants, descended from farmers, divine hag of the ashes, sophisticated shut-in, sentionaut, goth duck, motivated by spite, meat doughnut, maybe a member of the Antimemetics Division (though infested with memetic parasites), majestic sea lion, normcore illusion, reverse vampire, dark optimist, advanced ape, driven insane by knowledge of the universe, living on a minor planet orbiting an average star in a time of anomie, trying to be one with my inner opossum, and working in the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan. In my spare time I like tinkering with bits of code, being a grump, saving the earth in many banal and unspecified ways, and yearning with every spare moment to live in precedented times, and now spiralling into a kind of depression wherein I watch many bad movies. It is my goal in life to become ungovernable. This site is trying to be a repository of ideas and short essays on web development, technology, and general insights into digital environments and their culture. My favorite SCP is SCP-529.
The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect, but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves. — Carl Jung
We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. — T.S. Eliot
"So be it! So be it!" I cry in this manicured wilderness. "Who gives a damn!" Excuse this outburst. — Kurt Vonnegut
